A home for creative practice, live performance, critical dialogue, and community gatherings.

Since 2007.

Culminating a 7-years-long process, The Next Cup of Tea weaves evocative improvisation, personal storytelling, and playful routine to search for radical honesty inside the complexity of our times.

Co-presented by Steppenwolf’s LookOut Series and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, The Next Cup of Tea is a genre-expansive, solo dance-theater show, by Anjal Chande and pianist Sharon Udoh, that reckons with capitalism, colonialism, and love.

Reflections on our Artist-in-Residence Program!

Soham Dance Space's Artist-in-Residence Program was a seed of an idea in fall 2020, and thanks to the extraordinary generosity of 125 Soham supporters, took root in early 2021, growing over 18 months of deep, nuanced engagement between peer artists/producers Anjal Chande and inaugural AiR artist Parijat Desai. Chicago Parks District’s Night Out in the Parks and Chicago DCASE's recent Year of Chicago Dance project grant supported the full AiR flowering and culmination in Fall 2022. Enjoy these reflections on the Transform | Affirm Kick-Off Convening, the Circle Summit, and the Dance In The Round programs in the parks, by Shebani Rao, Felicia Holman, and Rishi Productions!

The Next Cup of Tea

A new show by Anjal Chande / The Soham Dance Project premieres in Chicago this fall 2020. Through improvisational dance and storytelling, the work reflects on money and being brown in a stratified America, routine interactions with Chande’s grandfather, the politics of art, and the next cup of tea.
